Wood Lathe - a Basic Intro

We’ll start with safety tips: Full face shield, no gloves, dust mask, hearing protection. Then we’ll go over proper use of the chuck, various accessories in the chuck kit, and alternate use of woodworm screw, bowl flange, and use of the tailstock. We’ll load a blank and fire up the wood lathe, changing speed to match the diameter of the blank. With the lathe stopped we’ll position the tool rest. Next will be a review of the various tools: bowl gouges vs carbide tips. We will discuss frequent sharpening of the gouges and the sharpening station.
