The intention of this class is to fill gaps in computer knowledge that is preventing some Maker Lab members from using the various CNC machines to which they have access. As the title implies, this is an entry level class and will address basic functions in the Windows environment, moving files between various media, file types created and required for both design and machining on the different devices at Maker Lab, and the various software available for project design as well as the software used by each machine to drive its particular tool head. This class will not teach using specific software, nor will it address CNC machine setup. Those tasks remain the responsibility of the stewards of the different machines. This class aims to demystify the various machines at Maker Lab and give an overview of the software and file types that are used to move from an idea, to a design, and finally to a machine chosen for the desired material being modified. This is class will consist of a flexible number of sessions depending on the needs of the participants. Participants should bring their own laptop.
The MakerLab is accessible 24/7 for members.
