Join us at The Maker Lab for an epic costume making series! This class is open to both members and the general public.
This class will be led by 4 teachers with extensive costume making experience and a variety of skills. We can help you create your design with everything from basic sewing to integrating electronic components! You will need to provide most of your own materials, and we will help you figure out how to best get what you need.
Equipment and processes available to help you make your dream costume include:
- Integrating electronics with EL (electroluminescent) wires
- Laser cutting and 3-D printing
- Sewing using patterns, basic sewing machines, a serger and our incredibly tough industrial machine that loves thick layers
- Embellishing with vinyl cutouts/decals, heat transfer vinyl and embroidery
- Using a hot knife and hot wire to cut and shape foam
- So many other tools!
The first class will focus on helping you plan your project. Please bring any materials you are considering using as well as basic design concepts. If you have design files you wish to laser cut/print/vinyl cut go ahead and bring those too. We'll start making!
The next 2 classes will focus on making. 3-4 teachers will be available during every class to teach you the skills you need, work with various tools, help brainstorm how to make your vision a reality, and support the process. Teachers will offer hands on support to help you make your costume.

Costume making can be more time consuming than anticipated, which is a great reason to join the Maker Lab, if you aren't already a member, and use the lab and equipment outside of class hours. Come play with our incredible assortment of tools and equipment!
