Get ready for the Holiday Fair! Join us for this jewelry open studio session. Bring new ideas or half finished projects to class. We'll work on the best way to approach design and technical aspects to complete your vision. Don't worry if you don't have a project, we'll come up with a jewelry design that you will love to make! This is a great way to network with fellow makers.

Join us for an intro to our awesome textiles lab tools!

We'll start with an overview of lab safety and etiquette and an overview of equipment and supplies.

We will spend most of the class reviewing how to use the Singers, our straightforward sewing machines. Depending on skill level and class needs we may also delve into the embroidery machine, or other machines.

No cost and no need to bring anything.

Fused Glass Lab: Ring Dishes for the Holiday Fair (25 Oct 2026)

Join us for a hands-on fused glass studio session as we create colorful, one-of-a-kind ring dishes for the Holiday Fair.

Participants will gain experience working with glass, exploring color combinations, cutting techniques, and arranging glass to create their own designs. All glass and materials will be provided.

This is a fun opportunity to build your glassmaking skills, get creative and contribute handmade pieces to the Holiday Fair.

No prior glass experience necessary to participate.

Everyone is welcome to come visit MakerLab, take a tour, and ask questions. No registration necessary. Come learn about our community, the equipment we have, and the classes we offer. Members are available to answer your questions and share their expertise as makers.

We offer the new member orientation class at 6:00. So, if you decide to join, you can get started right away. If you are already planning on joining, you can just come at that time. No registration necessary. If you have any questions, email us at info@themakerlab.org

This is our general safety and use orientation class for new members. It is a required class for new members and your first step to becoming a full part of our community. You will get fully set up as a new member, learn about our culture, how to register for classes, how to get answers to your questions, where to find safety equipment and about MakerLab's policies and procedures. No registration necessary.

Leather Cords and Handmade Jewelry Findings (27 Oct 2026)

Build practical jewelry-making skills while learning to work with leather cord and wire. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn to shape and finish handmade wire findings, including decorative clasps and ear wires, as well as create adjustable-length leather necklace cords. These techniques can be used together or independently in future jewelry designs. No prior experience is necessary.

Copper and brass wire and leather cord are provided for a $5 materials fee, payable to the instructor. If you prefer to work in silver, please bring your own 20-gauge round silver wire.

A minimum of two students is required for the class to be held.

Repurpose Jewelry into Holiday Ornaments (1 Nov 2026)

Turn forgotten jewelry into sparkling holiday ornaments! Learn to combine vintage costume jewelry, orphan earrings, beads and chains to create one-of-a-kind holiday decorations. Learn simple jewelry assembly techniques while experimenting with color, texture and movement.

Bring your own jewelry treasures to repurpose or choose from materials provided for a $5 materials fee payable to the instructor. Class registration fee is $5. No previous jewelry-making experience is required. A minimum of 2 students required to hold class.

This is a drop in, chill, sew, knit, crochet, just be, whatever event for everyone. You can bring your own project or play with materials at the lab.

Registration might help me plan, but is not necessary.

Please note that this is not intended to be an introduction class to any of the machines - but it is a great opportunity to revisit a machine and learn new tips and tricks!

Snow Stake Making Two-fer (12 Nov 2026)

Celebrate the 2027 Super El Niño and the Holiday Arts & Crafts Festival with a Snow Stake making two-fer! In this two‑part class, you’ll design your own Snow Stake, cut it on the CNC plasma cutter, and weld it together. You’ll make one to take home, if you choose, and one to donate to the Festival. In the Thursday design session, you will add your design to the group cut file. No experience necessary as we will be available to help guide you in learning the node editing tools to combine your custom shape to the top of the snow stake in VCarve. Saturday's Metal Shop times will be staggered so no one will need to wait. Intro to Metal is required, but you don’t need CNC experience — our instructors will guide the cutting. The class is free if you just want to help and learn while creating a snow stake to donate to MakerLab or for just $30 you can also keep one for your own yard. Proceeds from the Holiday Arts & Crafts Festival get reinvested into our MakerLab space for us all to continue to use! Think Snow!
